CSAC holds historic UFC 214 weigh in

Mixed martial arts is evolving around the dangers of weight cutting, and nowhere so progressively as in California, under the direction of California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) executive officer Andy Foster. Starting in May, a new, 10-point plan for improved weight cutting regulations was instituted. While the plan will be presented to members of the Association of Boxing Commissions at the annual convention in July, it is already happening and a success in California.
For example, the CSAC declined to license Renan Barao to fight Aljamain Sterling at 135 at UFC 214 on July 29, 2017 at Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Instead, the fight will be at a catchweight.
In another new step from the plan, the six fighters competing in title fights at UFC 214 have been asked to weigh-in 30 days and 10 days prior to the fight, so the CSAC doctors are confident that the cuts can happen safely. The World Boxing Council does this prior to its title fights, and it has proven to be successful.
So in a historic first step, Ariel Helwani for MMA Fighting reports that today Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones, Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia, and Cris Cyborg and Tonya Evinger all weighed-in via FaceTime. Foster declined to reveal any specific weights, but said he was pleased with the numbers.
