Cruz: I’ll ‘put a clinic’ on Faber
Cruz recently won back the UFC bantamweight championship, defeating TJ Dillashaw and believes he will not only beat Faber again, but this time easier than the last fight.
Dominick Cruz is 1-1 in his two fights with Urijah Faber, but has never lost inside the UFC Octagon. Heading into his trilogy fight with Faber at UFC 199, Cruz is supremely confident.
Cruz recently won back the UFC bantamweight championship, defeating TJ Dillashaw and believes he will not only beat Faber again, but this time easier than the last fight:
It doesn’t really matter about how many fights I’ve had because I had good fights and I fought the best guys in the division every time I fought, Cruz said. I know what I am, I know what I’m capable of. I know how I mix things up, I know the things I’m good at and I know I’m better than him. It doesn’t matter how many fights he’s had because the ones that could have gotten him a title, he lost.
Although Faber is among the most successful fighter in the sport’s history, his career achievements have fallen just short of a UFC championship. He’s had three previous chances, including the one against Cruz at UFC 132, but was never able to leave the octagon with his hand raised.
Faber vowed to make good on the next opportunity, but the ever-confident Cruz said the fourth time wouldn’t be the charm. In fact, he said it could be his worst title-fight loss yet.
Anybody in the top-5, he lost, or anybody in the top-3, he lost – I’m the champion, Cruz said. I’m the best in this division and I always will be. He’s not going to be able to compete with me. I’m going to put a clinic on him just like I did last time.
