Croatian heavyweight Mirko “Crocop” Filipovic believes his previous woes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship were purely mental.
“I think I was just empty in my head,” said the man once considered the most dangerous striker in mixed martial arts. “It was just the head problem, not body.”
He spoke to reporters Tuesday on a conference call ahead of Saturday’s UFC 99 show, in Cologne, Germany, where he’s scheduled to face Mostapha al-Turk. It would be Filipovic’s first fight for UFC since a disappointing run in 2007, when he went 1-2 after a celebrated five-year run in Japan, mostly for Pride Fighting Championships.
