Covington: Dana understands what I’m doing
Colby Covington: “If you wanted to become a megastar, you have to come and fight me and beat me up.”

Controversial UFC welterweight Colby Covington returned recently to Submission Radio for a wide-ranging interview. Covington has received an outsized share of coverage for his outrageous interviews and antics, and he can back it up – he’s currently rated #3 in the world.
“I got a chip on my shoulder still,” he said. “I’m not where I should be. If it wasn’t for the fake champ ‘Tyquil’ ducking me I’d already have a belt wrapped around my waist, but he’s too scared and he’s out here in Hollywood gossiping about the Kardashians, he’s not ready to come back and defend the welterweight title. So, I can’t look back until I get my belt. I’ll look back on what’s been accomplished after I get my belt. But in the meantime, I’ve got my eyes on ‘Tyquil’ Woodley.
“I’m the king of the mountain now. Everyone knows I’m the number one target. People don’t even think about Tyron Woodley cause they know he’s at the end of his career, they think about Colby Covington. That’s the only name that’s on everybody’s mind, is Colby Covington. They want to fight me because they know I’m the king now.
Tyron Woodley, all these fans hate him. He wants to be a hero, he wants to be the good guy, all the fans are telling you – I’ve literally had thousands of replies from Twitter that say, ’Tyron, if you knock out Colby I’ll be your biggest fan, I promise I’ll support you for the rest of your career’. Like, aren’t you seeing that I’m your money fight? If you wanted to become a megastar, you have to come and fight me and beat me up. That’s what you have to do to get to the next level.
“But he’s not seeing that, man, he doesn’t care about that. He’s not in this for his legacy or to be the best welterweight fighter, he thinks he’s looking for a money fight with GSP or Nate Diaz. Those guys aren’t even fighting anymore, they’re out of the picture. There’s no money fight for Woodley. I mean, there’s a not-money fight for him because he’s not a draw anyways. He couldn’t sell 100,000 pay-per-views. It’s either me or RDA, but he’s gotta fight someone. He’s also saying that he doesn’t want to fight RDA either.”
“There’s no telling what’s gonna happen. Dana White’s said things in the past and plans change – he even said that in an interview. So you know, plans can change and RDA is not set. They said he was supposed to fight Woodley, but I don’t know man, maybe I can steal the fight.”
Covington was asked if the Werdumerang incident could hurt his chances at a title shot.
My relationship with Dana, it is what it is,” said Covington. “He understands what I’m doing, he appreciates me, he knows I’m drawing more fans and more eyes to this. I mean, look at it, just by that boomerang incident I drew all the media, all the news to that UFC Australia show. So I pretty much sold their show. So I did them a favor, man, so they appreciate what I’m doing, they understand it.
