In the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 89, Canada’s Patrick Cote fights Donald Cerrone who is stepping up to the welterweight division.

Today at the open workouts, Cote talked to the press about his thoughts going into the fight and what his biggest advantage of Cerrone will be:

“I think Cerrone’s going to be ready, he’s an experienced guy. He’s not stupid,” he said.

He has a very high IQ about fighting, but every time he’s under pressure he crumbles. Every time he has a lot of pressure, he’s going back, straight, he’s going back, doesn’t move his head, so you have to put pressure right away. You have to break him right away.

But Cote also knows the former lightweight title challenger has a blueprint on how to be beaten. And the heavy-handed Canadian plans on exposing that weakness as soon as the referee says go.

“If you let him control the pace the fight, that’s where he’s very, very dangerous,” Cote continued. “Every minute of the fight that passes, he’s getting better and better. So that’s the thing about Cerrone. You don’t want to give him control of the pace of the fight.”
