Cormier defeats Oezdemir to retain belt

The co-main event of UFC 220 in Boston, MA featured champion Daniel Cormier defending his lightheavyeweight title fight against top contender Volkan Oezdemir.

BOSTON — Don’t ship Daniel Cormier off to the retirement home just yet.

The UFC light heavyweight champion turns 39 in March, and has talked about retiring by the time he turns 40.

But Saturday night, the old dog showed he’s still got plenty of bite. Cormier put on a master class of veteran guile in defending up-and-comer Volkan Oezdemir in the co-feature bout of UFC 220. The time of the TKO stoppage was 2:00 of the second round at TD Garden.
