UFC light heavyweight Daniel Cormier missed weight today and then made weight less than three minutes later by using an ancient trick – he pushed down on the towel with 1.2 pounds of pressure, making 205 on the nose.
It was crazy, I weighed in upstairs and I was like ‘Man I’m OK, I’m going to do this,’’ said Cormier on FOX Sports 1, as transcribed by Dan Hiergesell for MMA Mania. It was harder than normally, but we figured we had it done, the scale was weighing different.
We went in the back and they informed me that the New York state rule is you can actually re-weigh, and if you don’t make it, you have two hours to actually make the weight, so I started feeling pretty confident after that.”
Cormier was asked point blank about pushing down on the towel, and offered a flat denial, explaining he, the former captain of the US wrestling team, had never heard of such a thing. He was just trying to cover his junk.
“What does doing that do?” he asked. “I don’t understand. It’s not something I’ve done before.”

Adding to the Cormienocchio shenanigans, disgraced former division champion Jon Jones then described it as the dirtiest thing he had ever seen in sports.
That was absolutely nuts, said Jones. I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing. If you focus on his hands you can see him looking down and balancing out his weight just right to make 205. What a clever trick. Pretty dishonest of him.
The crazy thing was that it was allowed to happen. I would imagine there would have to be some sort of commission or something to go back and see this blatant foul play and address it. They just completely got away with doing one of the dirtiest things I’ve seen in sports.

On the plus side, Cormier now has a super easy diet plan to market:
1. Step on scale
2. Grab something and push down
3. Profit
