UFC light heavyweight Daniel Cormier fights Dan Henderson on May 24 at UFC 173, live on PPV. The winner may get a shot at the winner of Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson II, which will take place sometime this year.

Jones has the potential to bring mixed martial arts to the next level. But to put it gently, most fans don’t love Jon Jones.

In another combat sport, ‘Pretty Boy’ Floyd wasn’t going over well with the fans, so in a brilliant piece of marketing, Floyd Mayweather Jr changed his public persona to ‘Money’ Mayweather. Money made $80,000,000 for 36 minutes of work and 11 minutes of rest vs. Canelo Alvarez, making him the highest paid athlete of all time. In all likelihood, it was the highest pay for a single performance in human history.

And Mayweather rose above the conventions. No other professional athlete owns the promotion. Mayweather hires the promoter of record, he rents the arena. When you buy a tshirt at the event, you are buying from him.

‘Money’ Mayweather changed the game. And Daniel Cormier thinks Jon Jones should learn from his example.

I think a lot of stuff just shows his age, said Cormier to Steven Marrocco for MMAJunkie. He’s a younger guy, and whether or not people want to believe it, he’s younger, and all this takes some adjusting. He’s not the oldest guy, and he’s dealing with fame at a level that most people can’t comprehend.

If I was Jon Jones, being that people seem to want to dislike him, I would go 100 percent Floyd Mayweather Jr. He wins all the time, and people dislike him, but they always tune into see him.

People want to believe Jon’s not being 100 percent real with us. They’re thinking that we’re seeing kind of an act, so give them you. If they believe you’re a complete ass, then just be an ass.

They’ll watch to hope that you lose, but at the end of the day, you’ll still be winning, because Floyd Mayweather makes $40 million every time he fights. At the end of the day, that is winning.

So what do you think UG? If Jon Jones went full heel, would that be as real as it gets?
