UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier appeared recently on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour and discussed Anthony Johnson. The two are scheduled for a rematch at UFC 210 on April 8, 2017, in Buffalo, New York.

The pair fought at UFC 187 on May 23, 201, for the title vacated by Jon Jones unfortunate out of competition actions, with DC taking a submission win in Round 3. Johnson rebounded mightily from the loss. He won three straight, all by KO, with each winning Performance of the Night bonus. Jimi Manuwa lasted 5:28. Ryan Bader made it only to 1:26. And Glover Teixeira fell in just 13 seconds.

However, Cormier expressed confidence and said that like Mike Tyson before him, when you stand up to his power, Anthony Johnson breaks. In their first fight, Johnson dropped Cormier hard, but DC survived and rallied to win via rear naked choke in Round 3.

“Before we fought he said, ‘I can knock him out when I decide to knock him out.’ He said, ‘Daniel knows what’s coming to him, I’m going to knock him out,’” said Cormier, as transcribed by Adam Guillen Jr. for MMA Mania. “Well, what happens when you don’t knock me out? What happens if you hit me with your best shot and I continue to press forward and I continue to engage you and stay in your face the entire time? What happens then?

“You saw what happened; he rolled over, gave me his neck and let me choke him out so he can get out of the Octagon. People can believe everything they want. I love Mike Tyson, I was a fan just like everyone else, but the moment someone stood up to him, he didn’t do so well.

“And that’s the same thing with Anthony Johnson, the guy is a bully who wants to intimidate you. Dominate you and knock you out. But what happens, when you don’t knock somebody out? What happens?”

The pair were scheduled to fight at UFC 206, but Cormier suffered a hip injury that required surgery.
