Combate America’s founder slams some MMA press members
Campbell McLaren: “At least Kevin Iole was honest enough to admit he would not write about Combate Americas because it was an Hispanic MMA promotion.?

Campbell McLaren co-created the UFC, and is in the midst of another phenomenal success in the combat sports with the Hispanic-oriented Combate Americas. The fighters are young and ferocious, the fights are phenomenal, and the ratings are spectacular.
However, in some MMA journalistic quarters, it’s covered about as much as Jai alai. McLaren is not impressed.
A prominent MMA journalist at Yahoo Sports said he would absolutely not write about Combate Americas because it was Hispanic,” tweeted McLaren. “Our US TV ratings now put us in the #2 spot. We have youngest tv audience in MMA. We have brought in millions of new fans.”
“MMA jounos’s ignorance of TV ratings is astounding. Absolutely no context. No understanding of importance of 18-49 demo. Combate Americas Estrellas II was highest rated show on cable tv in time slot. It beat everything on cable. Everything.”
“I just got several messages explaining MMA lack of coverage of Combate Americas on language issue. That doesn’t seem to deter coverage of Rizin. Fact. Spanish #2 spoken language on earth. English is number #3.”
“At least Kevin Iole was honest enough to admit he would not write about Combate Americas because it was an Hispanic MMA promotion. I wish other MMA journos would just admit their cultural bias including Helwani.”
“Kevin Iole at Yahoo Sports refused to cover Combate Americas because it was Hispanic. Ariel Helwani asked me if we were targeting Latin America…ignoring 65 mil US Hispanics. We were called ‘regional’ promotion after being televised to 21 countries.”
Everyone says I use my salsa out sells ketchup phrase too much. So how about this-Cinco de Mayo beer sales are higher than St Patricks Day and Super Bowl Sunday combined. And salsa outsells ketchup. pic.twitter.com/kEBw0nj3Ap
