Cole Miller’s reputation in the UFC lightweight division continues to grow as the American Top Team fighter consistently puts in solid performances inside the Octagon. Well-rounded, ‘Magrinho’ has won four out of his five UFC appearances and his last two bouts have ended with submission wins in his favour – most notably a triangle victory over BJJ black belt Jorge Gurgel.

Although the Gurgel victory was the most impressive, it wasn’t the most publicised. Infamous ‘Ultimate Fighter’ star Junie Browning submitted to Miller’s guillotine choke after some pre-fight back and forth between the pair. Keen to move on and uninterested in Browning, Cole said,

I have nothing to say to that guy. Well… nothing good to say.

He added, I prefer to have respect for my opponents. Preparation for Junie consisted of not being motivated because I knew I was fighting a less skilled, mentally weak person.

Escudero is a whole different animal, however, and Cole is keen to express that he is training hard and will be fully equipped for the upcoming encounter.

Training for Efrain is quite opposite since his best strength is his mentality. He’s good at winning, Cole announced. I’m feeling 100%. Everything is going great in the final preparation for the fight and I’m looking forward to stepping back into the Octagon for the sixth time.

Escudero’s 11-0 record is impressive and Miller states he is undefeated for a reason. Mentioning his mental strength as his main asset, he also acknowledged that Escudero is a good wrestler – although it’s not something that he will be overly worried about.

I do know he’s a better wrestler than I but I don’t know if that poses a risk to me.

Training with one of the most renowned camps in the business sets Miller in good stead, whoever the opponent. With Ricardo Liborio heading up the coaching, there is also an array of other coaches and an elite level of training partners available to make the camp second to none.
