Featherweight Cole Miller became disillusioned with his employer following the cancellation of UFC Fight Night 97 which had been scheduled for October 15, 2016, in Pasay City, Philippines. Miller says he ended up with a check for less than one-third of his show money and had to wait two months to fight again. And this was after a long camp away from family. Then he lost his next fight, and his contract ran out.

He will entertain offers from other promotions, and the UFC has the right to match. At that point, he could be released, or the UFC could offer him a new contract.

“Honestly, I haven’t really thought about it too much,” said Miller as transcribed by Fernando Quiles Jr. for MMA News.” It kinda seems like that’s something that I would be wanting to think about, but with all the stuff that was going on with the UFC and that leading up to the fight with Hirota in December, I was so overloaded on MMA. And then an injury happened too, so I’ve been kinda just treating it like it’s a blessing and just not even thinking about anything MMA.

“I’m just focused on getting the school going and focused on getting my hand better to where I can fight again and even train again. I don’t even see the point in really talking about what I’m gonna be doing in the future when I don’t even know when that future might be.”
