Frank Mir recently appeared on Inside MMA and charged that Junior dos Santos avoided the ground ‘like poison’. Mir fights JDSin the main event of UFC 146 on May 26 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

“I don’t think it’s any secret: he has no chance of winning the fight if it goes to the ground,” said Mir. “He doesn’t wanna sit there and get grabbed and taken down and he’s not gonna fight that battle. If he was capable of doing it, we probably would’ve seen it already.”

dos Santos’s Jiu-Jitsu coach Yuri Carlton says that is bs.

I’m positive that Cigano’s Jiu-Jitsu is better,” vowed Carlton. “He trains with the best guys in Brazil: Minotauro, Minotouro, Anderson, Demian, just to name a few… I believe he won’t disappoint people when it comes to Jiu-Jitsu.”

Frank Mir trains on the United States with some Brazilians, but we have the privilege of training in Brazil. When you’re talking about Jiu-Jitsu, Brazil is the place to be. We have the great champions and Cigano is not far from being one.”

The expectations are great. On this first (title) defense we are really excited, just like on previous bouts. His preparation is complete and he’s been training for it for years. This speculations about Mir being better on the ground is bulls—. Cigano is better on the stand-up and on the ground. I’m positive about it.”

It’s hard to take Cigano down. Until you get him there, there’s a long way ahead of you. In case he does it, Cigano is very prepared. He’s always trained Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling. He’s ready. We don’t say it much, but there’s a lot of perseverance. He deserves to be there and he’ll remain the champion after this fight.”
