Coach: Jose Aldo can’t handle Hominick’s hand speed

Team Tompkins head coach Shawn Tompkins discusses Mark Hominick’s title bout with Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo at UFC 129 card, April 30th, Toronto, Ontario, Canada . Tompkins concedes that Aldo is one of the best P4P fighters in the sport, but says Hominick will win the fight with forward movement and superior hand speed.

The fight can possibly go a few ways, Aldo IS explosive, and Hominick can, start a bit slow feeling Aldo out. Aldo might land something in the first, hard to say.

Aldo is not stupid, Its going to come down to Marks ability to stop the takedown, Aldo is going to try and get it to the mat, He is a BJJ BB and while Mark has a good ground game, I dont really know just how good Aldo is, but I know as a BB his best chance is the ground.

If Aldo stands he is losing the title. He is usually faster than his opponents, but not this time. And he is fighting a guy who is more technical, just as fast if not faster, and a guy who does not back up like all of Aldo’s other opponents. Aldo is fighting backwards this time.

Aldo’s leg kicks have been mentioned a lot. He might land a couple but that is about it, You see videos of Hominick hitting the pads with his hands, but what people fail to realize is his base is kickboxing and Muay Thai, where he was a champ. He will check Aldo’s kicks with ease. Aldo should pray Hominick doesnt turn the tables and use his own leg kicks (he has not used them in some time). Hominick’s kicks are fast and damn hard.

Aldo needs to take it to the ground and early, striking and cardio are not going to help him in this fight, If Aldo sees himself at as a P4P striker who trains with Anderson Silva, it will be his downfall in this fight.
