From between 3.8 to 2.5 billion years ago, during the Archean Period, three critical things happened: the world’s landmasses began to form; the first life began to appear; and CM Punk (real name Chick Magnet Brooks) announced he would be fighting in the UFC.

As of today, we have fully formed continents, teeming with life in many forms, and Brooks has a date for his MMA debut.

The announcement came during episode two of the new UFC Unfiltered with Jim Norton and Matt Serra podcast.

The instant I got cleared I got on the horn with (UFC President Dana White) and we nailed everything down so I will be debuting September 10 in Cleveland, said Brooks, as transcribed by MMAjunkie. I’m super excited. For obviously a myriad of reasons. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel.”

The fight will be on the PPV card of UFC 203 on September 10 in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Archean Period quip was an exaggeration. It was in December of 2014 that Brooks announced he would be fighting in the UFC. His debut has been delayed a number of times due to injury. The latest announcement raises at least two questions. One, what are the odds Chick Magnet gets hurt again, and two, does anyone care? Fighters start out as amateurs, and frequently fail to show for a myriad of reasons, and it doesn’t matter. Brooks chose to debut in a UFC PPV, and in doing so he incurred serious responsibilities, and he has not met them.

UFC 203 card to date:

Champion StipeMiocic vs. Alistair Overeem – for heavyweight title

Ben Rothwell vs. FabricioWerdum

Bethe Correia vs. Jessica Eye

Nik Lentz vs. MairbekTaisumov

Phil CM Punk Brooks vs. Mickey Gall
