CM Punk: I understand Matt Brown being upset
CM Punk: ” I understand their perspective, I understand where he’s coming from, and I can honestly, probably relate to that, and the irony of it isn’t lost on me.”

Phil “CM Punk” recently appeared on ESPN’s Sports Center, and every other show in the “Car Wash.” His treatment goes a long way towards explaining why a man with no combat sports experience got a UFC contract, as does the fact that if the UFC didn’t sign him Bellator would, quicker than you can say “Herschel Walker.”
UFC welterweight Matt Brown recently discussed the signing of Brooks on his FOX Sports Great MMA Debate podcast.
“I don’t have a problem with the UFC doing it,” said Brown. “What I have a problem with is CM Punk being dumb enough to think he can do it.”
“Hopefully what happens here is that all these keyboard warriors that are like, ‘Oh I could go in there and fight’ see that a legit athlete – CM Punk is an athlete – and they see him go in a get demolished by a prelim fighter or someone that also shouldn’t be in there and they’ll see this s— is a little more than what you think.”
Brooks addressed Brown’s concerns.
“Well, thanks for calling me an athlete, Matt,” he said as transcribed by Zane Simon for BE. “I appreciate it.”
“I’m not sure I have a response for Matt. I’m a fan of Matt … One of my favorite fights last year was Matt Brown vs. Erick Silva. I thought that was awesome. Matt Brown’s an awesome fighter and I’m still going to continue to love watching him fight.
“But, everybody has an opinion, whether it’s positive or negative. And the negative ones, while I understand their perspective, I understand where he’s coming from, and I can honestly, probably relate to that, and the irony of it isn’t lost on me. Yes, I’m coming into this new thing, and there’s probably a lot of fighters that are, you know, I don’t want to say … Well, they’re just upset. And I can understand that, and more power to you. I understand your point of view.
“My job is to do what’s good for me and my family and along the way, if I change your mind, Matt Brown, awesome.”
