‘Brown Pride’ Gets Black Belt

UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was recently awarded his black belt in Braziian Jiu-Jitsu by co-founder of Team CheckMat Leandro Vieira. In addition, Olympian and top UFC contender Daniel Cormier was awarded his brown belt.

A former NCAA Div-1 wrestler, Velasquez was a tremendous wrestler from his first fight. He then developed his striking to the point that at UFC 155 he beat feared boxer Junior dos Santos silly, and reclaiming his title.

The pair now have a rubber match at UFC 166, on Oct 19, 2013, in Houston, Texas.

Dos Santos too is a BJJ black belt. Do you think we could see the first submission of Velasquez’s career on the 19th?
