In one of the weirdest MMA stories to date, a faulty elevator at the Wyndham Cleveland host hotel interfered with a number of UFC 203 fighters. It was reportedly the sole functioning passenger elevator in the facility.

First, the elevator led to heavyweight title challenger Alistair Overeem showing late to weigh-ins, and he was fined $500 by the Ohio Athletic Commission. Then, far more seriously, an elevator “elbows to asses” full of fighters and coaches, including UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum, dropped to the basement, trapping the fighters inside for a time.

Most of the fighters were okay, but UFC middleweight C.B. Dollaway suffered a back injury and was unable to fight Francimar Barroso.

Now Ariel Helwani reports for MMA Fighting that Dollaway’s manager Dave Martin says the fighter has not yet left Cleveland, as he is in too much pain to fly.

On Thursday the fighter met with a back specialist and took back and neck X-rays, and had an MRI. Those are expected back on Friday.

The UnderGround wishes C.B. Dollaway a full and fast recovery.

Further, we wish the Wyndham Cleveland would address the issue. Their crappy refrigerator apparently gave Mickey Gall a crappy weight cut. They cost Alistair Overeem $500 and a huge amount of stress the day before he fought for the world championship. And they dropped a bunch of fighters and coaches into the basement, injuring at least one.

There has been no public statement about their service, which is so far beyond terrible there isn’t a word for it. And a number of fighters have indicated there was no reaching out directly, either. This is serious well beyond the point that it has to be addressed.
