Bruno ‘Bad Boy’ Malfacine has retired from Jiu-Jitsu competition, after winning an unprecedented ten divisional world championships. Roger Gracie and Marcus Almeida have also won ten, but that was with the addition of the absolute division.

The Duque de Caxias-born fighter announced his retirement by untieing his black belt, and leaving it on the mats after he beat Rodnei Junior for his 10th roosterweight (57kg/126lbs) world championship on Sunday.

Malfacine will now fully transition to mixed martial arts. Under the tutelage of Ricardo Liborio, in the eyes of many the greatest coach in the sport, Malfacine is now 2-0 in MMA. Most recently he submitted Rafael Pereira via armbar at Brave 11 on April 13, 2018.

“This victory is monumental, immensely inspiring,” said Brave president Mohammed Shahid. “The legacy he has created will have a permanent space in the history of the sport. The MMA world will be waiting to see the legend back in action and every fan will be thrilled to see him fight. Brave Combat Federation is proud to feature such a legend and to offer the global platform for such legends.”

Jiu-Jitsu’s loss is a monster gain for MMA – Bruno Malfacine is one of the brightest prospects of the year, or any year.
