Browne: Proposing to Ronda more nerve wracking than fighting

Comparisons between life and fighting abound. The Karate Hottie Michelle Waterson recently compared fighting and childbirth.
“On a scale of 1-10, any pain I’ve taken in the ring would rank a 6, and childbirth is a 10,” said Waterson to ESPN. “Now I know that if I can get through 12 hours of labor, then I can get through a 25-minute fight.”
UFC heavyweight Travis Browne too recently made a comparison between life and fighting, with the former again being tougher. On April 20th, Browne proposed to former bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and he said it was more nerve-wracking than fighting in the Octagon.
“It’s funny ‘cause afterward, after I proposed, she was like, ‘I was wondering what was up because you were a little off,’ said Browne to Brian Martin for the Los Angeles Daily News. We’re on vacation. I’m usually the most laid-back guy, but I just had this thing where I was one track and it was like just not being normal.
I showed my buddy the picture and he’s like, ‘Who’s that guy? That’s not your smile, that’s not your demeanor. That’s not you. That doesn’t even look like you.’
Get back to the after and it looks like me. Just that personal stress and pressure you put on yourself. I wanted everything to be perfect. And the least she deserves is me being perfect. That was like the pressure I put on myself.
That’s life, man. Fighting is a part of life, right? It’s my career and all that kind of stuff. For me, I’m a family man. I absolutely love my family and they’re the closest thing to my heart. And to me, that’s my life. That’s actually why I have to separate myself from my kids and all that kind of stuff when I’m in camp because I know me and I’ll be a father first. I’ll skip on workouts or something like that to be with my kids, to be with my family.
For me, that’s life. That’s way more nerve-wracking to me than a fight will ever be.
Browne’s nerves will tested on July 8 at UFC 213 in Las Vegas. ‘Hapa’ is on a three-fight losing streak and faces Aleksei Oleinik, who is 3-1 in the UFC.
