On Thursday, the Ultimate Fighting Championship officially announced a match-up pitting Renzo Gracie black belt, Ricardo Almeida, against former “Ultimate Fighter” competitor, Matt Brown, in a welterweight bout for UFC 111 in Newark, NJ.

The bout had previously been reported by MMAWeekly.com a few weeks ago, citing sources close to the negotiations who stated both fighters had agreed upon the match-up.

Ricardo Almeida will fight in his adopted home state of New Jersey where the Brazilian opened his academy and his family calls him. This will also be Almeida’s first trip to the welterweight division after spending the majority of his career fighting at 185lbs.

Following a lengthy stay away from the sport, Almeida came back to fighting in 2008 and has won his last two fights in a row, including a victory over former “Ultimate Fighter” winner, Kendall Grove, in his last bout.

Matt Brown enters the fight in March on a three fight win streak including his absolute bludgeoning of Pete Sell and a win in his last fight over former “Ultimate Fighter” winner, James Wilks.
