It has been an interesting weekend for UFC welterweight Matt Brown. First he was assaulted by a fan while walking to the Octagon and responded with a punch his own.

Brown then got into the Octagon with perhaps the best ground fighter in the division, Demian Maia and was controlled most of the fight before being submitted in the third round.

If that wasn’t enough, Brown was later assaulted at his hotel by a man who turned out to be a former acquaintance. UFC commentator Brian Stann first reported the incident on Twitter:

The aftermath of the incident — with Brown in Brazil for Saturday’s UFC 198 — was caught on film, and the alleged assailant was identified by Brown’s wife and others as Brown’s former jiu-jitsu coach Rodrigo Botti. Brown’s current coach Leister Bowling from the Elevation Fight Team in Denver also identified Botti after speaking to UFC commentator Brian Stann.

Sources told FOX Sports that Brown was checking out of his hotel when Botti ran into the lobby and attacked the UFC welterweight before running back out again.

It turned out that the man that attacked Brown was his former jiu-jitsu coach, Rodrigo Botti. Brown’s wife took to Twitter to confirm the attack and what his issue with her husband was:
