If you love MMA, English is your first language, and you care about fighters in and from Brazil, then read everything Guilherme Cruz writes for MMA Fighting. In one of latest pieces, he reports on an officiating failure on Sunday at Super Fight League: Sher-E-Punjab VS. Bengaluru Tigers in Mumbai, India.

Flyweights Tatiane Couto and Davina Maciel were fighting when the former dropped the latter, eventually winning via TKO. However, Couto struck Maciel straight on the back of the head, repeatedly. That is illegal under all mixed martial arts rules sets. The referee failed to take any action.

‘Brutus’ Couto was the winner, while Maciel was stretchered out. Now she tells Cruz that an appeal is planned.

They say you can’t hit the back of the head, said Maciel to Cruz. The referee was blind or he didn’t want to stop. He was standing right in front of me. She had hit me in the back of the head earlier, and then she landed more. From that moment on, I don’t remember anything.

I remember that we went to the ground, I tried to use my jiu-jitsu, and then I don’t remember anything that happened. I woke up when I was on a stretcher, outside the cage. I don’t remember much of what happened. I still feel pain in my head. I went to the doctor and we did some exams and there’s nothing , but I’m feeling some pain. That’s it. Other than that, it’s all fine.

They should have stopped the fight. I don’t want to cause any problem to the promotion, but they should have saw it right there.
