In 2009 the UFC the UFC started charging companies who wished to have their logo appear on a fighter in the Octagon. Potential fighter sponsors are looked at individually and a fee is assessed based on the size of the company. Further, sponsors may be prohibited for not paying fighters as contracted, because they compete with UFC, because they conflict with a major sponsor, because they conflict with guidelines set by FOX, and for other reasons.
We are the most lenient sports organization on planet f—— earth,” said UFC president Dana White at the time.? When was the last time you saw guys wearing whatever they want in the NFL, Major League Baseball, the NBA, World Cup Soccer? Do guys wear whatever they want when they walk in? No they don’t.”
The Brazilian-based Pretorian was recently removed from the approved sponsor list, for unknown reasons.
Fighters Only Magazine broke the story:
Pretorian has been banned from the Octagon.
MMA managers were sent a memo from the UFC at the weekend telling them that the brand and its associated logos are no longer permitted to be worn inside the Octagon or during any of a fighter’s official UFC undertakings.
The move is a surprising one as Pretorian has until now forged fairly deep links with the UFC, featuring on the Octagon canvas and corner posts as well as on numerous fighters.
Most of its sponsored fighters are Brazilian but the likes of Roy Nelson will also be hurt by the ban, which comes into effect immediately.
