Robin Black breaks down his pick for 2016 Submission of the Year – Ben Rothwell’s 10-finger “GoGo” choke on Josh Barnett at UFC Fight Night Newark way back on January 30, 2016. The submission put Rothwell on a four-fight win streak. It was the first time Barnett had ever been submitted in the Octagon.
Black walks the viewer through the history of the submission, beginning with BJ Penn vs. Diego Sanchez at UFC 107 on December 12, 2009. He then moves forward to the success of Travis Browne when he was under the tutelage of Greg Jackson, and how the sport again modified. And then, how the sport modified again, with Black’s 2016 Submission of the Year.
