The Incredible Edible Me…
For those of you that know me, the first thing you may notice about my physical appearance is that …I’m fat. For those of you that don’t know me, well, you’ll see that I’m fat, too. Not big-boned, or chunky, or pleasantly plump (I’ve always hated that one …pleasantly plump). Yes, I’m fat, and no, I’m not proud.
That’s the first step: realize that I’m fat. The next step? Order a deep-dish, double-pepperoni pizza with a side of ranch dipping sauce? Not today.
Actually, the next step for me was figuring out how the hell I was going to start turning my life around so that I might live to see my kids grow up to have their own kids. Not a bad goal, really. But, how do I do this?
First, try to find a form of exercise that I can stick with for more than six months straight. I’ve done it all: the gym memberships, lifecycle in the house, speed walking, running, swimming. You name the exercise, I’ve done it. I just haven’t been able to hold steady for any true length of time. Hence, one of the reasons why I’m fat. The other reason, of course, is my diet.
I’ll be the first to admit I love to eat. I’ll eat anything and everything, and if you stick a lemon-flavored dessert in front of my face, you may lose a hand in the process. Lemon bars, Hostess lemon pies, lemon cookies…ugh. Me and lemon pastry go way back. So, secondly, in addition to finding an exercise that I love and will stick with forever, I need to control my diet.
I found my exercise passion. If you haven’t figured it out by now, it’s Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Funny thing is, I waited to start this blog so that I could prove to myself that I could stick to an exercise program for more than six months, and that’s what I’ve done. I mean, what’s the point if I can’t stick to an exercise program? I’m about to hit my one-year anniversary very soon. February, 14, 2010 will be my Jiu-Jitsu anniversary, to be exact. So, while you’re loving your loved one on Valentine’s Day, you can now think of me and my special anniversary.
So now that I have the exercise thing moving along, I need to be more diligent with the diet. That’s what this blog is about: Me and my daily struggles to maintain a healthy lifestyle (I hate that saying). So, simple, right? I’ll talk about my food struggles, Jiu-Jitsu, and even give you a weight scale update once in awhile. I know, I know…you want to know how much the fat guy weighs. Well, not today. Soon, but not today. I need to muster up some courage for that one.
So, thanks for reading and hopefully I can take you along my journey (another word I hate) without boring you too much. Until tomorrow, or the next day, or whatever, put that lemon bar down!
