BJ Penn regrets the controversy that his autobiography ‘Why I Fight’ has sparked and says he doesn’t want it to overshadow the book. The former lightweight champion spoke to Fighters Only this week about the drama, which has seen UFC president Dana White slam Penn’s book as being untrue.
The whole thing was apparently sparked by passages in the book which cast the UFC president in an unfavourable light, passages he says are inaccurate. Ghost writer David Weintraub has since been let go from the freelance projects he undertook for the UFC.
I didn’t write it to be controversial at all. Its just one story in the book and I hope it doesn’t become about this controversy. I want it to just be a good book and be about MMA in general and my life, Penn told us as the controversy hit message boards.
