Bisping: Double standard to Kennedy mocking?
“If I was a black guy and he was making videos and using jive talk, that would be racist… But he’s mocking me for being English… the double standard is interesting.”
Joe Ferraro interviewed UFC middleweight Michael Bisping ahead of the main event fight with Tim Kennedy at the TUF Nations Finale, which airs on FOX Sports 1 and FightPass.
“He’s relentlessly mocked me,” said Bisping. “Of course I take offense at that. It’s a professional sport, I’m a professional athlete, of course I will act accordingly, but certainly when we fight, I’m going to have that extra aggression inside of me.
“And after we’re done – forget it. Walk away. Don’t come talk to me. Don’t come to my dressing room and shake hands afterwards. I’m going to make an example of him, and then our association is done.”
“I’ve never met Tim Kennedy, he could be a nice guy, I’ve got no problem with him, but he has just relentlessly as I have said mocked me. Mocking my fighting, mocked my personality, mocked me as a person, my nation, everything about me.
“If I was a black guy and he was making videos and using jive talk, that would be racist. If I was a Mexican and he was wearing a sombrero and stuff like that, that wouldn’t be funny.
“But he’s mocking me for being English. It doesn’t bother me, but I just, the double standard is interesting.”
