Last week it was announced that Bibiano Fernandes has signed with the UFC, and was fighting at UFC 149. Then there were reports that he had been injured, and was off the card. Then on Facebook, he reported that no contract had been signed with the UFC, as the offer was insufficient.
Now it appears Fernandes may, or may not end up in the UFC, but it won’t be for months.
While there have been worries that the UFC constitutes a monopoly, it is clear that there is now genuine competition for some unsigned top talent, and while that may mean some dream fights don’t come to pass, it can only benefit fighter’s income.
According to sources close to the DREAM bantamweight champion, Fernandes had verbally agreed to sign with the UFC last week. That’s when the organization announced that he would meet Roland Delorme at UFC 149 on July 21.
However, moments later, he was offered a more lucrative deal from ONE FC.
While it initially seemed as though Fernandes was leaning towards signing with the UFC, his wife, who is seven months pregnant, wanted him to take more time weigh his options. So Fernandes and his wife have decided to wait until their child is born in two months before deciding who they will sign with.
