The trash talked between UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey and Bethe Correia turned bitter after Bethe said she hoped ‘Rowdy’ wouldn’t kill herself after the loss. Correia quickly apologized, but Rousey, who lost her father to suicide, vowed to prolong Correia’s beating. Then Rousey’s mother, Dr. AnnMaria De Mars, offered sage advice – finish her fast.

At the UFC 190 media day, Correia said she got the same advice from her mother, Tiana Correia.

“My mother told me the same thing,” said Correia to Guilherme Cruz for MMAFighting.com. “‘Please, finish this fight in 10 seconds. Knock her out, break her jaw.’ It’s a mom thing. No mom wants to see a daughter get beat up, get hurt, and Ronda’s mom thinks about it. It’s easier to go for a takedown and lock an armbar, you don’t get hurt. My mom wants me to go there, throw the first punch, Ronda goes down, and I go back to her arms. It’s normal.”

While Correia has the support of her mother, at the open workouts, Brazilian fans appeared to favor Rousey.

“I’m not angry at the Brazilian people,” said Correia. “They have the right to choose who they are rooting for, but I know they will be happy when I become champion. Brazil deserves a champion. It’s normal that they are rooting for the American hero. Ronda has this image of being a hero, and Brazil attaches to that. I’m not mad.”

Ronda Rousey fights Beteh Correia in the main event of UFC 190 on Saturday.
