Bermudez: I would smash McGregor
Dennis Bermudez: “I am the No. 1 featherweight in the division. If I ever fight Conor McGregor, I would smash him and run him out of the division.”
Like it or not, Connor McGregor has impacted the featherweight division in such as a way that no high profile fight can take place without him being discussed. McGregor burst on to the featherweight scene in early 2013 and with four straight wins in his division, is already in discussion for a featherweight title shot.
In the meantime, Dennis Bermudez has won his last seven fights in the featherweight division and is ranked below McGregor in the divisional rankings. So the topic of McGregor was bound to come up when Bermudez spoke to Ariel Helwani and the featherweight had some strong words for the Irishman:
“I don’t care about Conor McGregor,” Bermudez informed Ariel Helwani ahead of UFC 180. “I am the No. 1 featherweight in the division. If I ever fight Conor McGregor, I would smash him and run him out of the division. I’m the best at that weight class and I’m going to prove it on Saturday night.”
Riding a seven-fight winning streak in the UFC, Bermudez is “1000-percent” certain he has done enough to warrant a title shot in the division.
“I’ve won seven fights in the UFC – the toughest organization in the world,” Bermudez explained. “I haven’t been speaking up enough, but we’re going to change that.”
