Earlier this year Ben Henderson made confident remarks about beating Anderson Silva’s record.

“I don’t think me beating Frankie at all gets me anywhere near the conversation,” said Bendo. “I’d have to beat Frankie, then beat a couple other guys, defend the belt — what is Anderson up to? He’s up to like, twelve right now? Thirteen? After I beat Anderson’s record, whatever he stops at — fourteen times, fifteen times — after I beat that, then the conversation can begin.”

Some befuddled fans were critical of a champion wanting to be the GOAT. Henderson responds, in an interview with MMAWeekly Radio.

I want to be the best ever and one of my goals is to break Anderson’s record for title defenses,” said Henderson. “I’m sorry, I apologize if I offended you somehow, but I do have longterm goals, I like to set my goals high and then go out and get them done.”

If you want to be a Mundial champion, if you want to be a black belt and win the Pan-Ams, you want to win the worlds, win the Europeans, then you should bust your butt and train like it.”

On Dec. 8, 2012 at UFC on FOX 5, Henderson will have have the opportunity to move his title defenses to two, vs. Nate Diaz.
