At the post-fight press conference, Vitor Belfort was asked what could be next for him and could it be retirement? He responded non-decisively:

I think next is (I need to) just reset; we need to reset, Belfort said. It was a very tough night for me. I didn’t expect it to go the way it (did).

Despite the fighters’ contentious relationship – with Weidman often criticizing Belfort’s past use of testosterone-replacement therapy – he gave props to the titleholder once their long-awaited grudge match was over.

I saw my finish, but he’s the champion, Belfort said. He took it. It was a bad night. He was the better man tonight. That’s where it is.
