Former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski is 39, and has been fighting since 1999, when he lost his debut to Datsik. After a five-fight losing streak, he has once again rebounded, with a two-fight win streak, over Junior Albini and on Saturday at UFC 222 over Stefan Struve. That equaled the record for most wins in the heavyweight division, formerly held alone by Frank Mir, at 16.

With Mir moved on to Bellator MMA, Arlovski is likely to break the record.

I still have another 18 years, he joked post fight to Dann Stupp and Ken Hathaway for MMAjunkie.

Only once has Arlovski lost just one fight in a row. Instead, he operates in streaks. He saw his career reborn at Jackson-Wink MMA, but when that plateaued and then dropped, he moved to ATT headquarters in Florida.

I consider myself a smart person, said Arlovski. When you stop growing, you start falling down. I still have a lot of work to do with all of my coaches, so I’m just going to have a few days off, and then it’s back to the gym.

His goal remains a title shot, not breaking records.

It doesn’t mean s*** to be honest with you, he said. I’m in the UFC to reach my goal, and that’s it.

Arlovksi next hopes to fight at UFC 225 on June 9, 2018, at the United Center in his adopted hometown of Chicago, Illinois.
