Arizona AC to discontinue using 10 second whistle

Following “M-1 Challenge 27: Magalhaes vs. Zayats” on Saturday, the Arizona Boxing & MMA Commission has decided to discontinue using a whistle to mark the 10-second warning that accompanies the end of a round.

While the whistle will stay in play for the “seconds-out” warning used to clear the cage between rounds, a wooden clapper or cowbell now will signal the final 10 seconds of action in each round.

During the co-main and main events on the M-1 card fighters mistook the whistle for the end of the round and had to be instructed by the referee to keep fighting.

A clapper is the most common device to signal the final seconds of a frame in most states.
