UFC strawweight Nina Ansaroff entered the UFC on a five-fight win streak, but had a hard time initially. She lost her debut to Juliana Lima via a close decision loss. Then she failed to make weight vs. Rose Namajunas and was eventually pulled from the fight after getting the flu. She had some liver issues around weight cutting, and didn’t fight again for 14 months.
Then she lost to Justine Kish, again via a close decision. But this isn’t horseshoes, and 2-0 ordinarily means you are one loss from being cut.
However, things are looking up. Another year later Ansaroff fought Jocelyn Jones-Lybarger, tapping her in Round 3. And her partner Amanda Nunes won the UFC women’s bantamweight belt. Now the couple are thinking about having kids.
In a recent interview with MMA Fighting in Brazil, The Strina talked about what’s next.
“What Amanda does does have a great influence on my life,” she explained. “We are together, we live together, we train together. So it did help a lot seeing her, and realizing this is what I want to do. It just reminded me a little bit more I was ready to go in there and take the same steps.”
“I want to fight the end of May. … I’m ready for three fights this year. … I do want someone ranked. … I want to fight on the same date as Amanda, or a month apart. The two weeks apart with Ronda was a little bit chaotic, especially as the fight was so huge. … So I want either a good distance apart, or the same day.”
“I want to fight two more times before [having a baby]. If it gets me close to a title shot, of course I’m going to wait, I’m going to do that. Even if I win, but I’m still not close to a title shot, I think I’m going to take the time off, have a baby, and come back.
“I’m thinking the beginning of next year. But it all depends on how my career goes next year.”
Ansaroff also said she hopes to become half of the first UFC champion couple.
