Angela Hill on The Dark Angel: I can guess her gameplan

Invicta FC strawweight champion Angela Hill defends her title for the first time on Friday at Invicta FC 20 in Kansas City, Missouri, live on UFC Fight Pass. League bantamweight champion Tonya ‘Triple Threat’ Evinger fights challenger Yana ‘Foxy’ Kunitskaya in the main event.

Hill won her belt via split decision over Livia Renata Souza at Invicta FC 17 in May.

I thought our fight was close-ish, but not that close, said Hill to Mick Hammond for MMAWeekly. So when I heard it was split, I was like, ‘Oh no,’ because I didn’t really want to get that loss. I thought I did enough to get the win. It was definitely a scary few seconds.

I was really happy about that fight just because I knew a lot of people thought I was going to get smashed, a lot of people thought I was going to get choked out. Every time it went to the ground I know a lot of fans are freaking out because of what happened in the past.”

There is an old saying that it is hard to win a belt and harder to hold it. And there is another saying that you don’t really own a belt until you defend it. And there is a third saying that Kaline Medeiros is really, really, really tough.

‘The Dark Angel’ started out rough going just 1-3 in her first 13 months as a pro. However, under the wise tutelage of Mike Gresh and Juliano ‘Banana’ Coutinho, Medeiros then went 7-1, and is on a five-fight win streak, the last two in Invicta.

She’s definitely tough, and no discredit to her, but you’re always going to have tough people coming at you, said Hill. She’s on a two-fight winning streak, so she’s coming with a lot of confidence, but I’m ready for her.

She’s definitely a strong opponent. She definitely has some skills. I can guess her game plan: it’s just like an overhand to take down. But I’m working hard to be ready for whatever she comes at me with.

I’m hoping this opens the door for a lot of other opportunities. If it comes to defending my belt over and over again, or going to a different organization, I just want to fight the best – wherever it is, that’s where I want to go.”
