Jessica Andrade had a wild night at UFC 211.

UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczk was elemental, giving the appearance of trying to fight water. Then suddenly, over and again, the water had a big rock in it. Throughout, Andrade marched forward, forward, forward, forward, forward for five long rounds, never flagging or losing hope or losing the ability to end it with a looping bomb.

Afterward, Andrade took the mic, and proposed to her girlfriend, biologist Fernanda Gomes, who was sitting Octagonside.

“I have to first of all thank my team, said Andrade via translation from manager Alex Silva. Everything I did in here was thanks to them. I came here to be champ, but I’m still early in my career. I’m still a purple belt in Jiu-Jitsu. I’m still a blue belt in Muay Thai. So I’ll still be coming back.

“But today, I’d like to make a big special request to my girlfriend, who is here. Fernanda, I want to ask her [hand] in marriage.

With that Andrade turned and looked at Fernanda, saw her indicate yes, blew a kiss, and made the heart sign with her hands. With face bloodied, in front of millions, it was not perhaps the most storybook proposal, but it was beautiful in its way.

Congratulations Jessica and Fernanda!
