Anderson Silva happy to be the black Bruce Lee
Anderson Silva: “When I am training and want to cheer myself up, I think about Bruce Lee. In my life, I’m happy to be the black Bruce Lee.”
Anderson Silva and Kelvin Gastelum took part recently in a media conference ahead of their fight in the main event of the league’s debut in Shanghai at UFC Fight Night 122 on November 25. ‘The Spider’ said yet again that he draws inspiration from Bruce Lee.
In fact, his ability to channel Lee physically is uncanny.
“When I was very young, I told my brothers and my mom that I was Bruce Lee. I’m a black Bruce Lee,” said Silva to Yang Xinwei for the China Daily. “Lee, Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen, these guys are all my heroes, my Chinese heroes. I think Bruce Lee personifies the greatness of all martial arts, as a fighter and as a professional. When I am training and want to cheer myself up, I think about Bruce Lee. In my life, I’m happy to be the black Bruce Lee.”
“Bruce was an amazing master of the martial arts. If he was around today, he would beat everybody.”
Gastelum was humble but confident heading into the fight with the UFC G.O.A.T.
“Anderson Silva is one of the greatest of all time,” he began the 25-year-old. “But you have to recognize that his time as champion is over. He hasn’t won a lot recently. And now I feel like it’s my time. He’s got millions, he’s got cars and houses. And I want the same things for me.”
