Anderson Silva: Conor McGregor’s flaws are clear

The UFC G.O.A.T. Anderson Silva appeared recently on the Combate News television show and discussed featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

“He has flaws,” said Silva, as transcribed by Guilherme Cruz for MMA Fighting. “We all have flaws. And his flaws are clear. He defends well, but he doesn’t have jiu-jitsu. The main thing is that he uses his movement and his opponent’s movement to his advantage.

“He never puts himself in uncomfortable positions. Everyone who fought him put themselves in uncomfortable positions and weren’t able to get back to comfortable positions again.”

Silva also discussed the potential fight between McGregor and the greatest boxer of his generation, Floyd Mayweather. It is currently in public negotiation.

“I think everybody has a chance, said Silva. “When you step inside [the ring] to fight, you have a chance. Of course that if you’re fighting Mayweather, people would say ‘Oh, McGregor won’t last a round.’ But we never know.”

“The movement is different, how you have your feet on the ground is different, the timing is different boxing. The only way to see is putting them to fight. He would have to stop at least a year to be able to do a close fight, and I believe he should do it.”

On May 6, 2016, a report surfaced in Rupert Murdoch’s The Sun that McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr, the greatest boxer of his generation, were about to announce they’d be boxing in Vegas. That announcement never came.

Instead, the pair bickered for season after season. Recently, finally, the talk got specific. Mayweather offered McGregor $15,000,000 against his $100,000,000. Then UFC president countered with an offer of $25,000,000 each, and a split of the PPV to be determined. FMJ cursed that offer, but it has begun.
