Anderson Silva: Brazilian champs failed to evolve, lost
“Brazilians forgot some things to focus more on other things. We forgot the evolution… In my last two fights, I should have evolved more, but I didn’t follow this evolution.”

UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo fights Chad Mendes in the main event at UFC 179 on October 24, 2014 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, live on PPV. If Aldo loses, no UFC title will be held by a Brazilian, and all will be Americans. Just two years ago, Brazilians held four of eight UFC belts.
Renan Barao lost his belt. Junior dos Santos lost his belt. And Anderson Silva lost his belt. At a recent media appearance, Silva discussed why.
“It’s natural,” said Silva as transcribed by Guilherme Cruz for MMAFighting. “Brazilians forgot some things to focus more on other things. We forgot the evolution. It’s important. I speak for myself. In my last two fights, I should have evolved more, but I didn’t follow this evolution.”
Silva fights Nick Diaz at UFC 183 on Jan 31, and said he was committed to evolving.
“That’s why I brought in (Ricardo) De La Riva, (Luiz Carlos) Dorea, (that’s why) Rogerio Camoes is always seeking evolution, (Josuel) Distak and the whole X-Gym team, to see how we can evolve,” he said.
What do you think UG? Did Brazil fail to keep up with the American wrestling-based MMA game?
