Makwan Amirkhani was born in Ramadi, Iraq but his father moved the family to Finland for greater opportunity. Despite the passing of his father, the wrestler took full advantage, getting into the UFC and crushing Andy Ogle with a flying knee just eight seconds into his UFC debut. He earned a $50,000 performance bonus in the process.

At the post fight press conference, Amirkhani exhibited a compelling personality to go along with the skills.

I didn’t expect this; I thought I’d do 15 minutes of fight and then go back to my hotel room and that’s it, said Amirkhani as transcribed by Brent Brookhouse for MMA Junkie. To be here with these great fighters? It’s a dream come true.

She gave the bed for us. Now, when I go home and I move to Stockholm, I will give her the room, and I will buy a – I think with $10,000 – a bed that flies.

Amirkhani seems to be connecting uniquely with the fanbase. A recent video posted on Facebook is nearing 1,000,000 views.
