Former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier have verbally agreed to fight at UFC 211 in Dallas, Texas on May 13. The story was broken by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, and was confirmed by multiple sources.
This is Alvarez’s return fight after losing his title to Conor McGregor t UFC 205. Prior to that he won three in a row, defeating Gilbert Melendez, Anthony Pettis, and Rafael dos Anjos.
Since losing to Conor McGregor at UFC 178 on September 27, 2014 at featherweight, Poirier has moved back to lightweight, and gone 5-1, most recently beating Jim Miller via Majority Decision at UFC 208 on February 11, 2017, in the Fight of the Night.
While UFC 209 was a little underwhelming, 211 gives every appearance of being a badass event:
