It is not possible to love mixed martial arts and not be a fan of Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. Saturday night he beat the game out of Myles Jury at UFC 182. Monday morning he showed up at UFC headquarters and asked for another fight as soon as possible.
Monday night Eddie Alvarez was announced as out of his fight with Ben Henderson at UFC Fight Night 59: McGregor vs. Siver on Jan 18 in Boston, live and free on FOX Sports 1. Alvarez withdrew due to a case of the flu, according to his management.
Cerrone challenged Henderson for the WEC lightweight title in October of 2009, but came up short in one of the greatest fights in the promotion’s history. He lost a rematch with Henderson six months later via Guillotine in the first.
This trilogy fight offers Cowboy a chance for revenge, nearly five years and 18 fights later. It will be Cerrone’s sixth fight within a 365 day span.
Note: Rumors that Cerrone would be taking a tune up fight between now and the 18th proved to be false.
