Alistair Overeem’s purse was not withheld after UFC 141

Alistair Overeem and his former management, Knock Out Investments, better known as Golden Glory (GG), have each filed suit against the other.

In November, the Demolition Man sued GG for neglecting to pay him more than $150,000 in earnings, including a large bonus for signing with the UFC.

Tnen, only hours before Overeem’s sucessful UFC debut against Brock Lesnar, reports surfaced that GG had successfully petitioned the court to withhold Overeem’s purse, his win bonus, his performance bonus, and his pay-per-view proceeds. PPV cut was reported to be $2 per buy. The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) was ordered by a judge to hold around $240,000 of Overeem’s pay in escrow.

It was only at the post fight press conference that Overeem learned that his pay was being withheld. I didn’t know about that, Overeem said. The former Strikeforce heavyweight champion declined to comment further.

However, the court also stipulated that a $200,000 bond required to execute the withholding order, and that requirement was not met. Thus, as NSAC executive director Keith Kizer related to MMAjunkie.com, no portion of the heavyweight’s purse was in fact withheld.

So Overeem didn’t know about it, but it never happened anyway.
