Alexis Davis: I’ll win as Rousey has ‘bad karma’

“It’s all karma,” said Alexis Davis. “Karma is going to come right back at you. … That’s why I’m going to win the belt. Karma is going to come back to her.”

Alexis Davis fights Ronda Rousey for the UFC women’s bantamweight title at UFC 175 on July 5 in Las Vegas. Ronda Rousey talks trash like it is her job. Alexis Davis doesn’t trash talk at all – it’s not her.

“I’m not the one jumping up and talking s—,” Davis told Marc Raimondi for FOX Sports. “That’s not my personality. I keep trying, it just sounds stupid when it comes out.

However, Davis thinks that imbalance will play in her favor, as Rousey is filling with bad karma. Further, Rousey appears to try to push the envelope, so Davis thinks the pace of bad karma is accelerating.

“It’s all karma,” said Davis. “Karma is going to come right back at you. … That’s why I’m going to win the belt. Karma is going to come back to her.”

“There’s some boundaries you have to have. But I can only imagine the pressure she feels in this situation. She’s brought it on herself, all this s— talking, calling people out. She’s not a huge Cyborg fan. I think she has to push it every single time.”

It is widely understood that the sport’s greatest trash talker, Chael Sonnen, is playing an act, that his words in public pre fight are not ones he uses in private, but rather are an unequaled route to building interest and therefore money, for both fighters. On TUF Brazil 3, even reality TV managed to penetrate the persona, and Sonnen ended up being the more popular figure, over fellow Brazilian Wanderlei Silva.

So does Davis think Rousey’s trash talk is an act, or as real as it gets?

“I think it’s got to be a little bit of both,” said Davis. “You can’t come out of the blue with that. You have to have at least some of it embedded in you. Is she totally like that? No, probably not. Get on the wrong side of her, though, and quite a few words will probably be coming out.”

Talk only leads up to the fight, it is not of course the fight itself. Davis holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and wrestles regularly at Team Alpha Male. She expects to give Rousey a BJJ vs. Judo fight we have not seen before.

“I think I have a stronger background than a lot of her previous opponents,” said Davis. … “There are obviously holes in her game that I can see, where I can get in position and capitalize on them. Liz Carmouche almost ended that fight by taking [Rousey’s] back. Obviously, that’s something I’m looking at.”
