The concept of a pound for pound ranking is a little odd, and it just got odder. Jon Jones has been stripped of his title after his arrest for leaving an accident involving personal injuries, a felony charge with a penalty of up to three years in prison. Thus Jones was stripped as well from the pound for pound rankings, leaving Jose Aldo as the new king.

All hail the lord of the seven kingdoms and protector of the realm, the rajah of Canarsie, the rooster who leaves no hen unruffled, King Aldo.

Pound-for-Pound

1 Jose Aldo

2 Demetrious Johnson

3 Chris Weidman

4 Cain Velasquez

5 Ronda Rousey

6 TJ Dillashaw

7 Rafael dos Anjos

8 Robbie Lawler

9 Anderson Silva

10 Anthony Pettis

11 Renan Barao

12 Johny Hendricks

13 Fabricio Werdum

14 Vitor Belfort

15 Dominick Cruz (debut)

Anderson Silva has yet to be sanctioned formally for his failed PED test, so he remains in the rankings.

The big question of course is, if Conor McGregor beats Jose Aldo at UFC 189 on July 11, 2015, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, is ‘Notorious’ the new pound for pound best fighter? Or is it more correct to say just because you shot Jesse James, don’t make you Jesse James?
