Aldo: Conor is the new Sonnen

Jose Aldo on Conor McGregor: “I see his words as a normal thing. He’s like a new Chael Sonnen,” said Aldo as translated by Fernando Arbex for BE. “He’s building his name. He has just a few fights in the UFC and he’s trying to jump the line. He for sure has already done this, because he talks so much. He speaks very well, I think he’ll reach his goals very fast. About the belt, someday we’ll meet and then we’ll see who is who. “

UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo spoke recently with Brazilian media giant Globo about Conor McGregor, who recently broke into the top 10. Aldo is widely considered one of the sports’ best pound for pound fighters.

In a March interview, McGregor disagreed.

“I don’t think so,” he said. “I think he’s basic. His movements are limited. He doesn’t do any crazy movements. There’s nothing that jumps off the page when I look at him… A lot of guys think he’s this and think he’s that. I certainly don’t.”

Aldo rolled with the comments.

“I see his words as a normal thing. He’s like a new Sonnen,” said Aldo as translated by Fernando Arbex for BE. “He’s building his name. He has just a few fights in the UFC and he’s trying to jump the line. He for sure has already done this, because he talks so much. He speaks very well, I think he’ll reach his goals very fast. About the belt, someday we’ll meet and then we’ll see who is who. “
