In August 2010 UFC Middleweight Aaron Simpson was preparing for a bout with Dave Branch at UFN 22. He went through a sparring session with teammate Ryan Bader, and was alarmed the next morning when his nose was sore. The following day the infection spread through the bloodstream to Simpson’s elbow. After five days of infection, emergency surgery was performed. He will remained in the hospital for several days, followed by six weeks with an IV that ran straight to his heart.

In an interview with SBNation’s Luke Thomas Simpson describes the life-threatening illness.
