MMA fans should circle October 21 on their calendars because the main card opener at ONE on Prime Video 3 is a certified banger.
Strawweight MMA strikers Jeremy “The Jaguar” Miado (11-4) and “Mini T” Danial Williams (6-1) are set to clash in an early pick for “Fight of the Night,” or even “Fight of the Year.”
Bound to produce fireworks inside the ONE circle and ripe with relevance for the division, Miado vs. Williams is must-see TV.
Here’s three reasons why you can’t miss their highly anticipated showdown at ONE on Prime Video 3.
1. Elite MMA striking
Miado and Williams are two of the most talented strikers in all of MMA, across any weight class or organization. Both men have different styles, too.
“The Jaguar” is long and lanky, and, as his nickname suggests, he attacks with blazing speed and ferocity. Always working behind his piston-like jab, the 29-year-old boxing enthusiast tends to blitz his opponents in short bursts with flurries of punches.
Stunning knockouts over the likes of Miao Li Tao and muay Thai legend Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke proved that Miado is much more than a volume striker. Simply put, he carries true knockout power in his hands.
Williams is an accomplished and equally dangerous stand-up artist. Having competed extensively in the striking arts, he is a WMC muay Thai world champion with a bevy of devastating techniques at his disposal.
“Mini T’s” striking prowess was on full display in his three-round muay Thai battle against current ONE flyweight muay Thai world champion Rodtang Jitmuangon in April 2021. And although the Australian lost a decision that night, his determination, durability, and willingness to engage gained him countless fans around the world.
2. Proven finishers
Typically, high finishing rates belong to heavyweights and their monstrous punching power. Strawweights Miado and Williams, however, break that mold and have proven to be two of the best finishers in ONE Championship.
With a combined finishing rate of 70 percent, both of these men pounce on any and all opportunities to end the fight early.
Miado’s last five victories have come inside the distance, and all of those have taken place in ONE Championship’s loaded strawweight division.
And for his part, Williams has earned a finish in all but one of his six career MMA wins. Unsurprisingly, the talented striker secured each of those stoppages by way of knockout.
In short, given each fighter’s proclivity for finding the knockout, fans can safely bet this battle won’t see the judges’ scorecards.
3. Rankings at stake
Adding to the drama, a spot in ONE Championship’s strawweight rankings is on the line.
Miado was previously ranked No. 5 in the division, but pollsters recently replaced him with “Mini T.” Holding a coveted spot in the top five at strawweight is, obviously, a critical step in either man’s journey to divisional gold.
Moreover, the fact that both fighters enter this bout riding three-fight winning streaks in ONE Championship is a clear indication of just how crowded and competitive the weight class is. Up until recently, impressive undefeated runs have earned Miado and Williams only sniffs at the rankings.
Look for each man to fight with something to prove in this thrilling matchup, as they both know this fight is pivotal in their respective paths to the world title.
